First Line Friday #50

Wow! I can't believe this is my 50th First Line Friday. Woohoo!I love reading, so joining this group just clicked with me.

I have been working like crazy with editing my upcoming novel which will be released in November so I haven't had time to read anything but that all week. Therefore, today I will share an old favorite of mine. I have read this book at least four times already because I simply love it. Normally, I prefer historical romances, but this is actually a modern-day Christian romance that touched my heart. The book I'm sharing is The Princess by Lori Wick. This book has a lovely new cover now, but I am looking at the old cover on my bookshelf as I write. It shows a lovely flower garden with a pathway running through it, very royal like.Book Description: Prince Nikolai must marry to obtain an heir. He leaves it up to others to find a wife for him as his heart isn't in it anyway. He had been very much in love with his first wife, but she passed away. He will do his duty but is still grieving her loss. Shelby, a girl used to a simpler life, comes to the attention of the king and queen of the House of Markham, and she is chosen to become Nikolai's wife. Shelby and Nikolai agree to the marriage. While Nikolai is a gentleman in public and treats her kindly, he distances himself from her when they are at home. Shelby must find a way to adjust to this unfamiliar life filled with expectations from others and a husband who finds it easier to ignore her than open his heart once more.

Faraday, WainwrightJune 1994The Palace

Toby Newbury walked into the palace with comfortable familiarity, knowing he would be welcome but not certain he would find the monarch available. He wasn't against talking to the queen alone, but the purpose of his visit made him hope he would find Pendaran's king and queen together.
