First Line Friday #44

Life is a bit hectic for me right now, so I haven't read much the past two days, except my Bible. Therefore, I would like to share with you a book by an author I love. She has passed away, so there won't be any new books from this gifted writer. But if you have never read any of her books, I especially recommend the White Pine Chronicles series. Her name is Hilda Stahl and the book I'm featuring this week is "The Covenant."This series takes place in Michigan. Before I read these books, I never gave much thought to the types of trees growing in Michigan, my home state. However, after reading the love this main character had for these trees and the responsibility she felt to protect the forest, it certainly drew my attention these evergreen beauties.

"Jennet Cordell trembled with excitement and a touch of fear as she tucked the folded linen handkerchief that she'd hand stitched for Wexal Havlick in the frayed cuff of her brown serge work dress."

Book description from the back cover: "Jennet Cordell, sold by her father to settle a debt, finds herself in a position of unwilling servitude. When Freeman Havlick bargains for her freedom, Jennet's dream of escape seems to have come true. But Freeman has plans of his own.

He must meet the conditions of his grandfather's will in order to obtain the inheritance he desperately needs. The will requires that he be married, a requirement he assumes Jennet should help him fulfill. After all, she owes him."Now it’s your turn. First Line Friday is something every reader can participate in. Pick up a book near you. Type the first line in the comments, along with the title of the book and the author. If you’d like, check out the books other readers have featured on their blogs by clicking on the Hoarding Books link at the end of this post.
